Mutant morning part 1

Ansley sent me a link to this article in the Times:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/article6375145.ece

These little monkeys (marmosets, actually) inherited a genetic mutation given to their parents.  Lucky parents.

Yeah, whatever, animal testing - controversial subject and all that.

The crazy bit is that these monkeys have genetic mutations that glow.  They were given a "jellyfish gene for green fluorescent protein (GFP) that makes both the animal and his parents glow green under fluorescent light. The monkey parents aren't the first primates to fluoresce, but they are the first to pass a genetically engineered trait to their offspring. Scientists hope to use the approach to create animal models of neurological diseases, such as Parkinson's, which cannot be adequately reproduced in rodents--the typical subjects of genetic engineering."

Wow, and I was only joking when I said that my BRCA mutation glows in the dark.  (see post below)

Ansley thinks these guys are the cutest mutants ever.  I think they're totally creepy looking.  Now I'm going to hunt for the actual cutest mutant ever.  Stay tuned for pictures.
