6am: Ian, Avery, and Ansley arrive at Toronto General. Avery gets all prepped with designer gown, fancy headpiece, super fashionable IV drip, and hopefully a nice little pill of lorazepam to make it all seem like a lovely dream.
8am: surgery start time. let's get 'er done!
8am - 6pm: surgery. minimum 10 hours. i wonder if I'll dream? and if I do, I wonder if I'll remember it? during this time, Ian, Ansley, Dad and Jan will be hanging at Toronto General. That's a LONG time to just hang out. good luck with that, guys.
6pm (or whenever the surgery is done): I head to "recovery" to wake up and stuff. I should be there for about an hour or two. Hopefully Ian will be able to come see me at that point, but I probably won't remember it. I'm saying right now - I am NOT responsible for any incoherent ramblings that I babble out anytime on Thursday. If you've ever told me a deep secret, and I accidentally reveal it because I'm so doped up on the good meds, I apologize in advance.
around 8pm, or whenever I get out of recovery: I move up to the 6th floor, in the Head and Neck/Plastic Surgery wing. That's gonna be my home for a week or so. At first, I'll go to a special room called a "step down unit" where the nurse:patient ratio is lower, so they can keep a watchful eye on me. I'll be in the special area for a day or two. During this time, only Ian, Ansley and Mike, Dad and Jan, and my three best friends can see me. Not trying to exclude the rest of you... but let's be honest, I don't want you to see my pee bag. And you probably don't want to see it either. Let's just wait a couple days until I'm (hopefully) moderately presentable, and then you can come see me, 'kay?
friday/saturday: sometime I get to move from the special area to my actual room. Ian will be posting updates with the deets. I will still be on the sweet sweet morphine drip, in a beautiful drug-induced haze.by sunday or monday, I might be up for more visitors. but please please please please do not just show up. email Ian first just to check in and see how things are going. he's like the ultimate bouncer - no one gets in without his approval! Like I said, Ian will be posting updates on the blog, so check here first, and then when he says visitors are okay, email him (ian.macnaughtan@bell.ca)
As far as i know, that's how it's all gonna go down. of course, it could all go to the shits, and we'll just take it one day at a time.
