Live blogging...

I'm blogging now from the Kingsbridge Conference Centre in King City (there's a photo of me and one of Ansley, in our room). I'm up here for the weekend (along with Ansley) for a conference sponsored by Willow - the breast cancer support charity.  Willow runs the BRCA gene mutation support group (aka "Mutant Club") that I've been attending.  Mutant Club has been so great and so inspirational.  That's part of why I'm here.

Oh right, why are we here?  We're spending the weekend learning about how to be a peer facilitator in a support group.  So we (Ansley and me) can start a support group of our own.  We're interested in offering support to other young women dealing with a BRCA diagnosis.  We're dealing with the same issues as older women, but somehow thinking about chopping off your boobs and taking out your ovaries is a different thing in your 20s as opposed to your 50s.

Tonight we learned a little bit about each woman that's here.  We heard so many stories of surgeries and treatments and repeat cases of cancer.  Honestly, if I ever started to doubt my decision to have my mastectomies, all I have to do is hang out with some breast cancer survivors.  I am so sure that I made the right choice to have the surgery.

I'm looking forward to learning more tomorrow and attending more sessions.  And there's a pool here so I might be able to squeeze in a swim over break time.  Now Ansley and I are having a glass of wine in our room... ssssssssh don't tell!  (not that we'd get in trouble.)

More tomorrow...
