What's with the "mutant" stuff?

I googled "mutant" and this is one of the photos that came up.  Awesome.

On the FORCE website (which is the hub of all things BRCA), I read that many people who have BRCA mutations like to call themselves "previvors" because they don't have cancer, and they're not cancer survivors, but they wanted to call themselves something.  They say:

"Cancer previvors" are individuals who are survivors of a predisposition to cancer but who haven’t had the disease. This group includes people who carry a hereditary mutation, a family history of cancer, or some other predisposing factor. The cancer previvor term evolved from a challenge on the FORCE main message board by Jordan, a website regular, who posted, "I need a label!" As a result, the term cancer previvor was chosen to identify those living with risk. The term specifically applies to the portion of our community which has its own unique needs and concerns separate from the general population, but different from those already diagnosed with cancer.

Yeah, I think previvor is a silly word.  I prefer "mutant".  It's short, to the point, and makes me feel like a superhero.  Like the X-men.  And if I was a member of the X-men, I would SO be Storm.  Not the Halle Berry Storm from the movie, but the Storm from the animated series.  Seriously, how cool would it be to control the weather?  Or maybe Rogue, because of her cool gray streak in her hair.

  2. And Storm is winning in the vote! Ian's trying to make Colossus win, because that's his favourite...
