Sometimes it helps to read a few first-hand accounts of other mutants. I recommend the following reading:
October 2008 Chatelaine magazine article on BRCA
I uploaded this to my website as a PDF so you can download it and read it. Click here.
October 2008 Canadian Living magazine article on BRCA
Again, I made a PDF and put it on my website. Click here to download.
A short, but poignant article in the Globe and Mail Life section from April 2009. Click to read it online.
Pretty Is What Changes - this is a good book, if you can get past all the author's name dropping and star f*@cking and her annoying Hollywood lifestyle. She has the exact, and I mean EXACT same mutation that I do (so we're technically cousins or something). She goes into detail of the whole BRCA process - getting tested, dealing with those results, not wanting to have a mastectomy, and then eventually doing it. Ian calls this book "chick lit" but she does a pretty good job explaining some of the emotions involved.
